Shahid Kapoor - Predictions for 2013

Passing through a lull in his life, Shahid is ruled by Numbers 2 and 7 (Moon and Ketu), Number 3 (ruler Jupiter - Pisces) and Number 1 (Sun). This year when he will be mainly running in his 33rd year will prove to be much better especially on the film front. His next release 'Phata Poster Nikla Hero' and after that, 'Namak' will do well. He may also bump in to someone interesting in his personal life, but should decide about long term commitment only in 2014. Wearing a 'Cat's Eye', 'Ruby' and a 'Yellow Sapphire' will help in overall betterment.

Shahid Kapoor pulls a No Show at the awards

Shahid Kapoor has been a constant fixture at award ceremonies over the last few years. He’s either been involved as a host, or thanks to his exceptional dancing skills, has put up a performance at least. But this year, for the first time, Shahid will stay away from the shows completely, thanks to a

packed shooting schedule.

A source close to the actor reveals, “Shahid is a great dancer, which is why every year, he puts up at least one act during an awards ceremony. But this year, he’s going to be shooting back to back for two movies — Raj Kumar Santoshi’s Phata Poster Nikla Hero (also starring Ileana D’Cruz) and Prabhudheva’s Rambo Rajkumar (along with Sonakshi Sinha). He’s been juggling two hectic schedules for the last few months, which is why he wasn’t even able to take time off on New Year’s Eve.”

The source says that Shahid was approached by several show organisers. “Awards show organisers wanted him to fly abroad, to host or perform. They approached him to put up tribute acts in honour of the great personalities we lost last year. But this year, he has consciously stayed away from public performances,” the source adds. It seems that Shahid has been shooting every single day for the last few months, and he didn’t want the rhythm to break. Agreeing to a show performance also means taking time out to rehearse, which was something Shahid didn’t apparently want to do.

The source also adds that Shahid’s fans have been sending him messages on social networking sites saying they are missing his performances. We tried contacting Shahid, but he remained unavailable for a comment.

Shahid Kapoor's charisma is unbeatable

Shahid Kapoor may be doing fewer films but his charisma is unbeatable. The actor, who is currently shooting for the Rajkumar Santoshi film Phata Poster Nikla Hero with Ileana D’Cruz, took time off for a motor oil brand endorsement tour in various cities. All Shahid had to do was to meet mechanics. But on the actor’s insistence, this turned out to be much more interactive. The result was the actor dancing to Mithun Chakraborty’s numbers in Kolkata with the mechanics! We hear that when word spread about Shahid’s dance, the next batch of mechanics were ready to shake to his Kaminey song ‘Dhan Te Nan!’ While he did that, he even arm-wrestled with one of them.

Khula Shutter, Nikla Shahid

Crowds on the busy streets of Mumbai Central were in for a pleasant surpriserecently when they realised that actor Shahid Kapoor was shooting in the bylanes there. But while the shoot promised thrilling moments for Shahid’s fans, the idea of shooting at a real location, and that too a crowded one, had kept the cast and crew on edge for several days.

A source reveals that the filmmakers were keen to shoot their film Phata Poster Nikla Hero at real locations around the city to keep the real flavour on reel. Just last week, Shahid had to shoot an intense scene in a crowded market area. And insiders reveal that shooting in the crowded bylanes of the place put forth several challenges.

“Even though the film makers managed to get permission from the authorities, the crowd was extremely difficult to handle and execution was becoming a hassle. Apart from keeping the crowds at bay, we realized that the lanes were too narrow to park Shahid’s vanity van,” reveals a member from the production unit of the Rajkumar Santoshi film.

“We were skeptical about it, but when we told Shahid about it, he was very sporting and simply asked us to make whatever temporary arrangements we could on the location. So, a local Udipi restaurant was finalized to double up as Shahid’s changing room and he offered to travel to the location nearby on a bike. Instead of throwing tantrums on the non-availability of a van, Shahid simply had the eating joint’s shutters pulled down while he changed,” says the source. Meanwhile, the crowds, who knew that some shooting was to commence, had no idea who was at the location.

“But the moment the restaurant’s shutters opened, and they saw Shahid step out, the crowds simply multiplied and soon the entire area was buzzing with excitement. We were worried because Shahid’s scene was an intense,emotionally charged one and with the distractions around, we were prepared to shoot for at least eight to ten hours,” adds the insider.

But Shahid surprised them when despite the commotion around, he managed to deliver all his scenes in a single take. “Santoshi is a stickler for perfection, and Shahid himself is very critical about his work. The shot was a long one and needed a degree of expertise to deliver the perfect emotion. But he gave a perfect shot in one take. And he kept doing that with every shot, so what was actually to take eight hours, was wrapped up in two hours’ time. The crew was amazed at his focus and preparation and unanimously stood up to give him a standing ovation. In fact, he even got an ovation from the crowds, who had actually quietened down as they were engrossed in watching Shahid perform,” says the crew member.

Shahid Kapoor goes back in time

They say it’s never too late to explore one’s own country’s backyard, and Shahid Kapoor did just that while shooting for his film in Karnataka. The actor took off to do his own sightseeing in and around Mysore. Sources say that Sasha was so enamored with Ramgarh fort that he spent hours visiting the historic spot. “Many films too have been shot at the location including Sholay. It was four hours away from where Shahid was shooting. 

After he packed up, he decided to go on the trip with his crew-members ” A source present at the scene says, “Shahid is really curious about finding out more about old Hindi films. That’s why he wanted to visit the site. It was a long journey but he didn't seem to mind.”

"Shahid is a professional actor" - Santoshi

MUMBAI: Bollywood filmmaker Raj Kumar Santoshi’s career is back on an even keel, thanks to the Shahid Kapoor-Ileana d’Cruz starrer ‘Phata Poster Nikla Hero’ (PPNH) which he is currently shooting in Mumbai.

Santoshi confesses to having a ball shooting with Shahid and Ileana. Santoshi thwarts all talk of ‘Phata Poster Nikla Hero’ (PPNH) being a sequel to his 2009 rom-com ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani’.

“This is in no way related to my earlier film. PPNH is a far more emotional film. I’d say the comic and serious content are equally balanced.”

Shahid, we are told, is hands-on in the project. “He doesn’t only come on the sets, do his job professionally and go away. He is there constantly adding to the drama and the comedy. This is the first time I’m working with Shahid. I will work with him again very shortly. As for Ileana, she is a revelation. Such a focused and generous artiste. All my three main actors Shahid, Ileana  and Padmini Kolhapure are new to my cinema. But I feel as though I’ve worked with them many times.”

The prolific director who has not directed a film for three years, has also revived his most ambitious project ‘Power’ which was shelved in 2011.

The slick actioner featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt was slated to be the biggest project of the year 2011. While Anil Kapoor had promised to bring the action directors of his serial 24 to do his stunts in ‘Power’, the Big B was all set to do his own stunts in the film.

All in good time, as they say. The ambitious actioner which was aborted due to a steep budget, is back on the track.

Santoshi will begin shooting ‘Power’ as soon as he’s done with PPNH.

Confirming these developments  the director says, “Yes, my producer Feroze Nadiadwala and I are reviving that project. The practical problems which I don’t want to go into, are sorted. As soon as I am done with the current project we will start work on  that film. ‘Power’ would be my biggest film ever.”

Try to crack a joke at his expense, he will beat you to the punchline. Shahid Kapoor’s one helluva smart boy. He thinks on his feet, his moves off screen will always be a mystery. He's been linked to Priyanka Chopra, Bipasha Basu, Nargis Fakhri and many more. But he deflects all my attempts to stymy him with the moves of a grandmaster. In short, you can't pin Shahid Kapoor down. Easily, one of the most gifted actors of his generation, Kunal Kohli's Teri Meri Kahaani could be his breakthrough film. Mysteriously, for all his talent, his career hasn't zoomed skywards as it ideally should have. Ah! The vampires of showbiz. His entourage of managers guards him like hawks but unmindful of the crowd in the room, I pose him one query after another. Excerpts...

Q. How was it working with Priyanka Chopra again?

Whenever PC and I work together it’s always fun. And I’m sure it’ll reflect in the film.

Q. You worked with Priyanka after a reported breakup. Would you also work with Kareena who you were involved with at one point?

I’ve never said no to working with her. I don’t know if she’ll be comfortable though. I can only speak for myself.

Q. So what have you been up to with so much free time on hand?

(Smiles) Celebrating my birthday in Goa!

Q. Tell us a little about your Goa bash.

Well, there were 30 of us and we had a three-day pool party. It was a blast. People ate when they felt like, slept when they felt like, went to the beach if they felt like, went into the pool, lazed around… Basically they were a few of my closest friends and we just had fun.

Q. Many stories filtered in about Nargis Fakhri and you.

Of course, there would be stories. I’m an actor, she’s an actress.

Q. So what exactly happened there?

Nothing. She came along with a lot of her friends and everybody had fun.

Q. Reports said Nargis Fakhri had shifted into your apartment.

(Laughs) I heard even her mother had shifted into my apartment! No, seriously, I hardly know Nargis. We’ve met four or five times. We have a common friend and that’s why she came for the party. People talk too much. Nargis is not even a buddy, she’s an acquaintance. It’s absurd to say we’re anything more than that. She has been to my house not more than twice with 10-12 people when I’ve had a get-together at home. There’s no reason for people to go on and on about it. It’s annoying!

Q. Would you marry a woman who belonged to the film industry?

I don’t know. I have no idea when I will get married. Industry, non industry… God knows! When I fall head over heels in love with a girl, I will tie her to my side and never let her go. Whoever she might be wherever she might be, I don’t care. As far as there’s truth and there’s trust.

Q. Ranbir Kapoor and you have been bonding a lot recently.

We kept bumping into each other, like at an award function. So we hung around and got chatting. Once in a while we catch up. We both like fast cars. He’s young and really chilled out. I’m comfortable with him. There is no awkwardness. It’s nice to hang around with people your age.

Shahid Kapoor loves House parties

Actor Shahid Kapoor says house parties are more fun and he prefers them over club parties.

Talking at a promotional event of his upcoming film, Teri Meri Kahani at a college Shahid said, "There is no reason to stop partying...in fact I feel house parties are more fun, you can have your own music, food and enjoy completely. Are you guys so boring?the party should not stop. Don't you know how to do house parties?." "I love house parties more than being at a club or a pub," he said.

The 31-year-old actor was referring to the crackdown on a city's nightclub. Recently, Assistant Commissioner of Police Vasant Dhoble raided the Shiro nightclub in Worli, saying it was flouting rules. Also other popular nightclubs such as Club Escape in Andheri and Royalty in Bandra were raided. Not only Shahid, but even other B-town celebrities had expressed displeasure over the raid on micro-blogging site Twitter.

You will see a new Shahid Kapoor in 'Teri Meri Kahaani'

The Fanaa director faces questions on the Shahid-Priyanka chemistry, comparisons to Mausam and copying the Taiwanese film Three Times

Kunal Kohli’s next film Teri Meri Kahaani is set to release on June 22. After a not very excited response to its first trailer, the rom-com has finally managed to generate hype after the release of its fresh second trailer and the now-on-now-off romantic history of the lead pair – Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra. But director Kunal is not new to this turf. He has two huge hit love stories to his name – Hum Tum and Fanaa. No wonder then that after spending many months writing a script on a political subject, he decided to go back to what he loves doing most – making love come alive onscreen.

You are making a love story yet again…

I had almost zeroed in on a political subject, but it didn’t work out. So I started all over again and wrote Teri Meri Kahaani. Guess everybody has their zone and love stories is what I am best at, so why not!

Shahid and Priyanka had reportedly broken up when you approached them for Teri Meri Kahaani. Was it difficult to convince them to work together again?

I shared the script with Shahid and Priyanka and they liked it. If there was any issue, they didn’t speak to me about it. I spoke to Shahid, and then I spoke to Priyanka separately, and they both agreed. It was that straight and simple.

Did you want these two as your lead couple for this script and no one else? Or did you think of casting them because of their chemistry and the hype around them?

See, the personality of the lead characters changes in every era. Shahid has done a double role earlier, in Kaminey, and Priyanka has played multiple characters in What’s Your Raashee? and 7 Khoon Maaf. I wanted them because I felt that they could do justice to the roles. And,of course, because they look good together!

The pre-Independence portions are in stark contrast to the early 20th century India we are used to seeing in the movies. It generally revolves around the Independence movement and revolutionary leaders….

I was tired of the pre-Independence period shown in movies. It was always portrayed as dull and colourless. I am sure it wasn’t that grim all through. So the character of the 1910 Shahid is that of a ‘dil fek aashiq’. There is colour and romance. His outlook towards the British is unique too. He doesn’t believe that Indians are slaves of the Brit rulers. He feels that they are our slaves instead and we can get work done by them.

Was Teri Meri Kahaani more difficult to shoot than your previous films, considering the story unfolds in three different eras?

It was interesting, actually. For the 1910 period we had to create a place that was almost like a Gaulish village in an Asterix comic – far removed from the uprising and the depressing environment. But yes, we have used authentic props – earthenware, glasses, the architecture and natural dyes and fabrics for the costumes.

This was more fun. Making a film like Fanaa was more difficult, because we had to tell a terrorist’s love story. I had to show Kajol kill a man she loves – those scenes were more difficult to shoot convincingly. In Hum Tum, I tried using animation (which was a first) in the narration of the love story. That was challenging too.

What about the 1960s portion?

I had a blast shooting that era. The story was set in the film industry, so recreating that atmosphere was fun. We created the streets, the trains and Mumbai’s buildings. I love Mumbai and I was very happy recreating this city. It’s probably my tribute to the city I love.

Do you get irritated that people are already comparing your film with Shahid’s last (Mausam), which was a box office dud?

I feel that as people see more promos, they will realise that there is no similarity between the two films.

Do you feel pressured because your lead actor’s last film was a huge flop?

As a director-producer, if your hero’s last film hasn’t done well, you are under pressure to deliver a hit. And if the leading man’s last film has been a huge hit, then you have the pressure of living up to that success. So both ways, there is always going to be pressure.

Has Shahid been the bankable star that you were looking for?

The main thing I would like to say here is that you will get to see a completely new Shahid in this film. We have never seen him as a Muslim character and as this confident flirtatious shayar that he is, in the role of Javed. I am sure he will get a lot of ‘wah wah’ for his dialogues and his shayari.

What about Priyanka?

Priyanka Chopra is one of the best actors we have today. She has done varied roles, but she doesn’t have that one quintessential love story to her name, like a DDLJ or a Jab We Met. She was very keen to do this film. She has never played a demure character before. There is a definitely newness to Priyanka in TMK.

Do you feel that you got that Shahid-Priyanka chemistry you were looking for?

There are two things on which the chemistry of your lead actors depends – the script and the background (the characters and the setting). Then you tell them what to do, and from there on the actors take it further. These two are very comfortable with each other and brought to the table what I was looking for. So yes, TMK is an entertaining and sizzling film that will bring a smile to your face.

You used shayari extensively in Fanaa and now in this film too, your lead character recites sher. You seem to be a big fan of this form of poetry? Did you write any of it?

Yes, I am a huge fan. I did help a little in the writing, and Prasoon Joshi has written some of it. We have also picked it up from other places. TMK has shayari that is more street smart, tapori and cheeky. These days we use a lot more rap, and club and house mixes. But we have forgotten our own art forms. Films like Kabhi Kabhi and Nikaah used shayari quite beautifully. I feel that using it in a mass medium like movies will make it easily accessible and fun, and will help popularise it.

You don’t have an item song in your movie…

First of all, I hate the word ‘item’ song! What the hell is that? These songs don’t last very long anyway. On the other hand, songs from my films like Hum Tum and Fanaa are still remembered and played on the radio even today. I feel that my film’s music should be immortal.

Teri Meri Kahaani team to host a Kavi Sammelan in Delhi

With the advent of new technologies and a spurt in intelligent film marketing ideas, makers of films are coming up with interesting and also sometimes weird ways of projecting their movies. Kunal Kohli’s Teri Meri Kahani (TMK) too will see such campaigns but in different shades. They will be hosting a Mushaira or Kavi Sammelan and also a Qawalli party in New Delhi.

It will be one of the most exciting and fresh way of promoting a film. Director Kohli confirmed this scoop saying that the Qawalli and Hasya Kavi Sammelan will bring back the era when such things were very popular. In present times of remakes and sequels, such creativity is lost. They have opted for Delhi because Delhi and the adjoining state of UP have the maximum number of Hindi speaking population.

Explaining the significance of such an initiative in terms of TMK, Kunal said that in one portion of the movie, Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra hail from Lahore and converse in wicked and witty Shayari. The promo of the movie was loved by all and the verses were specially raved. Hence, they got the idea to host a Mushaira. Fans of both the actors are expected to participate in it but will be chosen through a special online contest. We think this will become one of a kind publicity campaign for a movie where the verses in the film got precedence over the cast’s star power. Also, it will be enriching for those writers in Bollywood who forgot how to write a line without going crass.

Shahid Kapoor to host IIFA 2012 in Singapore

The last four years have seen International Indian Film Academy (better known as IIFA) Awards as one of the most memorable event that's filled with peels of laughter and giggles (courtesy Riteish Deshmukh and Boman Irani's acts) and lots of awards, of course!

But this year seems to be a 'zara hat ke', as they would say in tinsel lingo, because it will be the national heartthrob Shahid Kapoor, who is all set to host this years' awards.

Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, IIFA's spokesperson confirmed this news by saying that "Yes, Shahid Kapoor will be hosting this year's IIFA Awards".

The circles are already buzzing with big names like Hrithik Roshan and SRK, who are reportedly signed up to host certain segments along with Shahid. When asked about this, the spokesperson said that it's too early to talk about that as they are in the initials stages of talking to everyone.

Will Sasha and his boyish charms manage to charm their way into the viewers' hearts is what remains to be seen.

Interview - Bombay times (24th April 2012)

Shahid Kapoor has always been the quintessential boy-next-door - super cute, but never carnal.

Not until he took off his shirt and ran with the horses in Kaminey. That was the beginning. Then came the split with then girlfriend Priyanka Chopra. Soon, everything changed. Suddenly, the boy who didn't drink or socialise began partying. Hard. The guy who had longterm relationships was, within a short span of a few months, linked to Anushka Sharma, Bipasha Basu and Nargis Fakhri. The workaholic then took off for a vacation with his buddies. And finally, there was his "naked birthday" in Goa - a three-day pool party that began trending on Twitter after pictures of him and some babes in bikinis surfaced on the internet.

Shahid is suddenly sexy, with a fan following of 1.21 million on his micro blogging account. Singledom seems to suit him. Over a cup of cold coffee, he answers questions on love, life and the ladies...

You've become suddenly sexy! What's changed? I've been sexy for a while (grins). Ever since I crossed 30, women have started taking me seriously. Until now, my target audience was school-going girls!

Does the sexy vibe have something to do with being single? No. I think it's because I've stopped shaving for a while, so maybe the stubble is helping. And I think this unemployed vibe I have right now is working for me. When you have to work, you have to look proper, and you have time for very little apart from shooting.

There's something different about you... I think I have changed over the last four years. Also, I've been living on my own and doing my own thing...

Haven't you been living on your own for years now? Yes, I mean kind of...for the past six years I've had my own apartment.

What are the other changes? Oh God, you are asking me to analyse myself! I think I've become more relaxed and laidback. Earlier, I was very fixed in my ways. I used to only go with what I wanted. Now I go with what other people want and, it's an easier ride. You have to believe in whatever you do workwise, but it's wonderful to go with someone else's vision because it's liberating. As an actor, it's a beautiful place to be in. And in my personal space, I've become more social...

What made you more social? Nagging ex girlfriends? No! (laughs) It's just a natural change. I can't define it, but I think with age you realise that I prefer being this way. I can't analyse why.

Your former girlfriends call you boring! See, this is what happens when you don't defend yourself and only one side's version is put across. No one knew me, so they believed whatever they heard. I was always a well-behaved boyfriend, which I am not anymore.

Yes, you are the new bad boy, with lots of link-ups! That's because I was in a very public relationship for a long time, after which I haven't been in one. I also don't talk about my personal life anymore, so everybody wants to know what the hell is going on. Since speculation is on, I'm being linked to any woman I am seen with. But nobody knows what's really happening, which works for me!

You are happy being single? Very happy!

You always seemed to be a guy who preferred a relationship to a romp. (Smiles) I've kind of discovered myself in the last year-and-a-half. I've learnt to enjoy 'me' time and do stuff that I want to do. I haven't been working much of late. In the last eight years of my career, I have worked on an average of 320 days a year. After Mausam, I was supposed to start a film but it got pushed to the end of the year, which left me unemployed. I am hating it, I've come to realise I love working. It's my first love. I feel incomplete without it. The last I was on a set was three months ago. That's really long!

You began working at 16, so you've earned a break! I am a workaholic. But this time-out has its plus side. I have had a lot of time with myself, friends, family and just chill. I have met lots of interesing people from different walks of life. I think I have experienced a lot more. As an actor you tend to live in a really small world which is not very healthy. It is enriching to go to new places, meet different people know and learn about things which you didn't know about..

You took off for a holiday, too! Yeah, I did a holiday in Barcelona with three boys. We had a banging two-week vacation.

Pun intended? (laughs) Take it how you will, no it was the best boys' vacation I have been on.

One gets the feeling that you are now easier on yourself. True? I am very passionate about what I do, I give it 200 per cent, and I don't think it will ever change. But I've realised that as an actor you have to give it your best and let it go. That's the most difficult journey and it comes with time. When you start out, there's so much eagerness, excitement, and you want all that appreciation to come your way. But with time, you come to realise that you cannot chose to make things go in any particular direction. Every film has its own journey and it works/ doesn't work for so many reasons... It's important just to enjoy work without worrying about other stuff. I am at more peace with myself. I just go with the flow. I don't judge myself all the time.

How do you remember Mausam? I always smile when I remember Mausam. The first memory of the film is that I got to spend two years with my family and work at the same time. My parents separated when I was very young so I never got that kind of time with my dad and the entire family. I am definitely dissatisfied with how it was recieved.

Cop films are big these days. Wanna wear a uniform and grow a moustache? I grew a moustache and are a uniform (air force officer) in Mausam. I have done 18 films, and have completed eight years in the industry. Now, I feel that, as an actor, I am ready to attempt everything - action, romance, comedy, an off-beat film, or even a full-on massy film, because I've learnt to enjoy these films. But there are still some films, that I don't understand. They make lot of money and I wonder, 'Yeh kya hai'?.

What kind of roles are coming your way? All kinds - from a rustic guy, to a mentally challenged person, to an underdog, to a politician. When they feel you are good in comedy, they offer you comic roles, and you choose the best. But it gets difficult when you are offered everything and it's up to you to choose what kind of films you want to do.

That's because you are considered a good actor. I thought I was okay in my first film, and then I was really, really bad in some films. I really cringe when I see some of my scenes. There's a scene in one film where a dog is biting me, the expressions I have made should be qualified as the most over-acted scene in the history of the cinema. The dog's expressions were more real than mine. I was going bananas!

Speaking of bananas... Let's talk about your naked birthday... That is Atul Kasbekar's fault, who decided to turn me into a calendar model. About 30 of us went to Goa. We booked the whole place, there were around 20 rooms; all my friends were there. We had a 24-hour DJ who played music from noon till 2 am in the morning. It was a three-day pool party. As for the girls in bikinis, they wore them for obvious reasons. (Grins) I requested everyone to be in their saris and pyjamas but they refused. Eventually, all of them wore swimsuits and shorts. I had a great time. It was the most fun birthday I have had. As the whole place was just ours, I could let myself go.

Your next film is with Priyanka. Any awkwardness? Not at all. It was all very smooth and comfortable.

The fraternal backslap, the broad grin and that unshaved, unkempt look brings him agonisingly down to earth. In real life, Shahid Kapoor doesn't look one bit the burgeoning marquee idol your girlfriend swoons for every time she sees him on the screen.

Wean him away from the sets and you wonder where the silver-tongued sure-footedness you expect from stars of his stature, the sex appeal that attests to his top-liner bona fides, and that unmistakable swagger of Kaminey, has disappeared. "What you see of me on the screen is actually the hard work of a team of people who come together to make me look good. I trust their instincts. I am confident of their conviction in me," says Shahid.

On being a 'hero'
I don't know if I am good or bad at it, but I know how much I have slogged for all this... those auditions, trying to be noticed, my desperation to be accepted... yes, all of us have to go through the grind. What works for me is that I love what I do. When you know that you don't suck at what you do, it's a great feeling.

If you are passionate about your job, the hard work it takes to be successful comes easy. Also, then, somewhere deep down, you are convinced that you are good at what you do and better than many others you are pitted against. Yes I know that just being good is not good enough, and that's when you push yourself that extra mile.

On following the herd
I am not really good with fashion-I am told I don't have a very good taste when it comes to clothes! If you are not sure, it's better to stay casual and not try to experiment. It works for me. Style is very individual. You need to be comfortable in your skin: with your face, your body…. Until you reach that comfort level with your own self, whatever you put on will all be useless.

It is not about flaunting a six-pack ab. It is about being comfortable with who you are and what you have. First, get it right in your mind. The rest, people say, follows effortlessly. You only need to be careful about being presentable and you are ready to make an impact on people around you.

When it comes to my style, there are certain things I will never wear: a tight T-shirt, for one. The thing is, you must reach a level of confidence where you are able to tell yourself that you don't need to fl aunt anything, and still people will see it.

It is much cooler like this. It simply exudes more confidence, and instead of coming across as a person who is trying to impress people all the time, it is better to be looked at as somebody who is into fitness but doesn't feel the need to show it.

On experimenting
Change is good, but never do anything if you are not sure of it. Even in my career, I have never been part of a project in which I didn't believe in. It is the same when it comes to my style. Once I get comfortable with a particular look, I stick to it because I believe in it.

But change is important... because it helps you grow as a person. For instance, these days I am trying to be comfortable in a formal dress: earlier I used to feel claustrophobic in them. Times change and I am growing with it...I am getting used to a formal dress now.

On fitness
Looking good is part of my job. But fitness means much more to me. It is a very personal feeling. I don't think I was born with a great body: I was a very regular, skinny, average, middle-class boy... half-Punjabi, half Muslim.

I have worked really hard to get this far. It is not about perfection. It is about how you feel about yourself. I look at it like this: if you are happy about your body without any clothes on, in all probability, you will be happy with whatever clothes you put on.

Fitness is an essential part of me. The fact that I want to hit the gym and work out makes me feel good about myself. Even if I was not an actor, fitness would have definitely been constant for me. I am not in shape because I am an actor and I need to show off my body. I am in shape because I like being in shape. It's been an part of me since I was a teenager.

On overcoming failures
The fact is that all of us put in a lot of hard work when it comes to our careers and we are all passionate about what we do. But any success comes with its own price...there are times when life's script turns out differently from your expectations. These are times when you need to look within to pick-up the pieces and start moving.

Our lives are like a T20 match: there is no way any of us can ever predict a match-winning score. The key is to believe in yourself. The fluctuations in life are so huge that if you are not strong, you could have a nervous breakdown. Success scares me as much as failures: because when everything is going great, you fool yourself into thinking that you've got it all sorted out.

Of course, failure is difficult to accept because you know you've worked hard on a project, your career, and you want it to be a success. The key is to believe that even the most successful person carries the baggage of an equal number of failures.

On handling criticism
How I deal with it? I shut myself to all kind of opinions, good or bad, immediately after the release of my films. When you are in a vulnerable state of mind, it is always better to close yourself to all kinds of opinions. There are times when you need to just shut up and follow your gut. You cannot be objective to criticism all the time.

Come on, we are all humans. I give myself three to four months after the film is released before I open myself to the reactions. The fact is that sometimes shit movies do great business, and sometimes great films just flop. Great movies and successful films need not always be the same.

The key is to have a sense of humour about it. It is cruel, no doubt. I remember the first time I went for an audition: even before I could finish my lines, the director had said "Cut". That was the end of my audition. In the beginning, rejection feels like a slap on your face.

On feeling insecure
It's got nothing to do with what you do etc. but it is about how you look at life. Everybody in this world have their moments of insecurity. If anybody tells you that he never feels insecure, he is the biggest liar.

Dharma Productions to co-produce Vettai remake?

Impatient to get Dharma Productions on his resume, Shahid Kapoor convinces UTV to rope in a co-producer.

Opportunity knocks at your door just once, they say. However, for Shahid Kapoor, a chance to work with Dharma Productions has presented itself not once but thrice.

The actor, who couldn't work in Karan Johar's Kaal in 2005 had to wait seven years to be offered another film from the production house. Sadly, due to date issues, the actor had to opt out of the Punit Malhotra directorial as well. Shahid had then said, “I hope it doesn't take us another seven years to work again.” And thankfully, his wish has just come true albeit with a little prodding by the actor himself.

Mumbai Mirror has learnt that Shahid, after KJo's production fell through, was approached by Siddharth Roy Kapoor for the Hindi remake of the Tamil blockbuster Vettai. Seizing this opportunity, the actor asked the UTV head to get Karan Johar to co-produce the venture, which will finally add the much-coveted ‘Dharma film’ to his resume.

This managed to magically fix Karan Johar’s problems - Firstly, the filmmaker without having to upset his other productions or Punit Malhotra got a project with Shahid. Also, he got a big film like Vettai in his kitty without having to fight for its remake rights (since Siddharth Roy Kapoor already had it in place). And lastly, he did not have to make Shahid wait for another seven years. Perhaps for the first time, tinsel town's very own peacemaker and problem solver got his dilemma sorted.

Though Karan and UTV remained unavailable for comment, a source close to the latter production house told us that the necessary paperwork still remains to be done.

Our source also revealed that UTV will handle the entire production of the film and Dharma will not really be involved in the execution. The film will be directed by N Linguswamy, who had made the original. Apart from Shahid, R Madhavan will also be a part of the venture.

Shahid set to play a rugged rogue?

He has largely been known as the chocolate boy in Bollywood. But Shahid Kapoor is set to undergo a transformation for UTV’s Hindi remake of the Tamil action venture, Vettai. Released this January, The Arya-R Madhavan starrer was produced by the same banner. Shahid is likely to play the part originally portrayed by Arya.

When contacted, Siddharth Roy Kapoor, UTV Motion Pictures’ CEO confirms: “Yes, we are in advanced discussions with Shahid, but till we make a formal announcement, I wouldn’t like to say much about the cast.” N Lingusamy will apparently direct the Hindi remake too, while Madhavan may also reprise his role.
Vettai revolves around two brothers — the younger one played by Arya, and the older, by Madhavan. While the latter is sensitive to violence, Arya is a jobless rogue. After being beaten up by goons, Madhavan becomes stronger, thanks to the training he receives from his younger brother. The two then get back at two goons and protect their family.
“Vettai is essentially an action film, but like other south Indian films, it also has a dose of masala entertainment including humour, stunts, dance, songs and romance. But in terms of genre, it’s an action –  rough and rugged kind – film,” says Kapoor, adding that the production house has had a “fantastic start” to 2012. “The last few months have been very good for us.
Starting with Vettai, our big release on Pongal, we have had a great run with Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya, and now, Paan Singh Tomar,” he says, adding, “Everything boils down to making the right creative choices. Thankfully, we’ve managed to do it.”
